The Shibumi 60 Concept

The Shibumi 60 Concept Shibumi 60 was designed large enough to be comfortable and luxurious, but small enough to be docile and easy to handle alone. Large storage areas, ample living spaces, and several amenities designed to facilitate the operation and maintenance, all help reduce the cost of ownership and improve the experience of navigating and living on a large, comfortable, powerful sailboat.

High-performance cruiser

The ability for a luxury sailboat to master the open ocean is much like the ability of an SUV to go off-road. It may be a rarely used capability, but it is nonetheless essential to establishing the identity of the brand. She was designed not just for fair weather sailing, but also to survive the typical set of worst-case scenarios. She must be capable of surviving the same set of conditions today’s best cruising sailboats are supposed to endure.

Ease of handling

The Shibumi 60, through the incorporation of latest navigation technology and appropriate layout, allows easy solo sailing. The rig selection, deck design, and selection of materials allow solo sailing or the operation by the owner and a very small crew, oftentimes his family and friends.

Environment

The Shibumi 60 incorporates extremely energy efficient equipments, eliminates the use of fossil fuels completelly, dramatically reduced engine noise and eliminates fuel smells and exhaust odors. This enhances the experience of sailing as a carefree leisure activity that frees one from the stresses of daily life.

Luxury and comfort

The Shibumi 60 is designed to provide an unprecedented level of convenience and comfort. This includes obvious features like a wide companionway and ample access through the pilothouse, which makes it easier for older and less-mobile sailors to move about; two steering positions, the traditional cockpit and an enclosed pilothouse; a wide ramp with handrail, providing convenient access from dock to deck; and open coaming toward the stern to avoid the need to climb up and down into the cockpit. Luxury exists both in the incorporated features – entertainment system, satellite TV receptor, flat screen TVs in salon and both staterooms, well-appointed galley (microwave, dishwasher, trash compactor), and clothes washer/dryer – to the finishing details, such as the use of granite surfaces in the heads, leather cushions, and many other features requested and designed for each owner.

Simple maintenance

In this design we minimize and simplify maintenance – indirectly through freedom from refueling and diesel upkeep, but also with no exterior teak to maintain, and integrated computer inventory management and maintenance log systems.
